About Adobe

Background

Adobe's software programs come from the U.S. software company Adobe Systems. The company was founded in 1982 and has its headquarters in San Jose, California. The name Adobe comes from Adobe Creek, which was one of which flowed past one of the founders' home. The founders, John Warnock and Charles Geschke, Adobe started to develop further postscript technology (a programming language with which you can control how a computer page will look when printed). In 1985 the company bought the Apple license for the use of PostScript in its laser printers. This Adobe Systems gave a significant role in the development of desktop publishing (computer-aided layout of printed matter).

Today

In 2005, Adobe Systems bought up rival Macromedia, which is mainly known for Flash technology. Macromedia's product range will gradually be integrated with Adobe. Adobe's program today focuses on publishing and editing for publications and graphics. Notable programs from Adobe, for example, Adobe Photoshop, PageMaker, InDesign and Acrobat Reader.
